Learn More About Medieval Wedding Gowns

In years gone by weddings were usually pre arranged as a simple matter of purpose instead of love. The brides dress was designed to represent the families' wealth and most brides did not wear white. In fact medieval wedding gowns had a design that was usually blue or red to show purity and social standing, as these primary colored fabric dyes was the most difficult and expensive to acquire.

Queen Victoria wore a white wedding dress in 1840, starting a trend that grew into the traditional cream, ivory or white of today. White back then symbolized extreme wealth. Ladies sometimes also incorporate vibrantly colored accessories made from fur, silk, or velvet onto a dress and some added expensive jewels to complete the masterpieces.

Nowadays many brides are tired of the boring traditional pale dress choices; and have become attracted to Celtic and medieval bridal traditions of wearing intensely dyed dresses, only green is not worn as it is considered as bringing bad luck. Medieval theme weddings are becoming more and more popular these days with many individual brides hiring dressmakers that specialize in these types of designs. Most will end up being spoilt for choice by vast number of designers available.

For every person that makes a decision to have an older themed gown specific features will need to be included in the make up of the dress. The focal points are things such as decorative trimmings included on the sleeve and neck edges; elaborate waistbands and of course lace bodices. Styled as tightly corseted bodices together with full skirts, topped off with a cape draped over the dress.

Addition of any of these features into the end design will add subtle nuances that will hint of an era long gone. Of course those that are just not courageous enough to completely don a brightly hued dress may use colors to accent the waist or hemlines. These small yet effective color bursts are a perfect unison of modern and medieval, with very little compromise.

Budget always dictates what the wife-to-be will ultimately be able to wear on the day, and for those that want something unique but affordable this era has many styles to choose from that will be much cheaper. One dress shop in particular has pre made gowns that range from $89-$199 for the simpler styled dresses. This is sure not to make to large a dent in any individual wallet, and can easily be customized for very little extra.

However if wanting to mimic the more elaborate ones then choose rich fabrics such as velvet and silks in deep burgundy, purple or navy. It should have long sleeves with ornate trimmings and corsets with detailed lace and gemstones. Of course this design can set one back a few thousand dollars.

These elaborate dresses are all hand stitched so need to be ordered well in advance. Whether Celtic medieval wedding gowns; peasant or royal style, every guest will agree. There is nothing more breathtaking than a bride walking down the aisle.
