Smart phones, tablets, and other electronics have become the norm for most people today and most people own several devices and use them nearly constantly. Because of this exposure, many children have begun using their parents devices and this has caused tech companies to create programs aimed directly at children and their development. Finding the best apps for preschoolers is easier than ever as there are entire categories devoted to them.

The application market today consists of millions of different programs, with most being low priced or completely free. For parents who do allow their children to play with their devices or buy them their own, the availability of appropriate and educational material is important and oftentimes even convenient. These applications allow children to learn how to use devices but they also feature material tailored to their development.

The majority of applications designed for children today are set with various skill and development levels. Parents will generally want a program that is educational and at the same time also entertaining. In order to assist parents with deciding which game to choose out of the thousands of great options, there are several websites that actually review the various games and categorize each application in order to make it easier to select an appropriate program.

Programs aimed at kids are usually categorized and separated by content and required skill level. Parents usually look for the most age appropriate material for their children while also taking ability, and developmental progress into consideration. Free programs are great because parents can download many different ones and only keep those which their kids find entertaining, distracting, and fun.

Developers creating programs for children, especially young children, tend to focus on development and skill attainment. The vast majority of applications for children who are not yet in school feature counting, colors, shapes, letters, social skills, hand eye coordination, and memorization. These are all skills which children are expected to have been exposed to and familiar with before beginning school.

Many of the biggest names in children entertainment now have their own smart phone and tablet applications aimed at their youngest fans. These companies include Disney, Mattel, and Nickelodeon. The most famous characters offered from these companies often show up in children's applications, including Mickey Mouse and gang, Dora the Explorer, Dr. Suess, and Elmo.

There are thousands of applications created specifically for kids younger than school age. The most popular are those having to do with drawing and coloring, such as Art My Kid Made; music, such as Magic Piano; and the alphabet, such as My A-Z and The Singing Alphabet. Children themselves often prefer play-oriented applications featuring interesting characters or animals, games like this include Timmy Tickle, MakeGo, and Toca Train.

As usage continues to grow amongst both adults and children, the options available will grow as well. Finding the most popular and best apps for preschoolers is important to parents wishing to make sure they are only accessing appropriate material. It also helps that many of these applications distract children and give parents a few minutes to themselves.
