Creating Your Own First Aid Kit Provides You Vital Benefits

,
By Jeremy Brownhorn

Making your own first aid kit is something that is necessary in every household because one should be prepared if an injury should take place. One can always go to a pharmacy and buy these packages however; they may not be comprehensive enough to fulfill one's needs. As an example, if one is going on vacation and won't be near enough to an emergency facility, one's medical equipment on hand should be more comprehensive.

The basic items that should be included in such a set include things like bandages, plasters and gauze. It should include a thermal blanket and treatment packs for burns. Basic items such as matches, penlight and lighter should be added to the pack.

All the medical supplies kept in the container should be replenished from time to time to that the medication and other supplies don't get past their expiry dates. If one needs to use the package, one doesn't want to open a bandage that will be ineffective because it is old. The basic supplies which include surgical gloves, masks, scissors and bandages as well as sterilized gauze should be kept in the box at all times.

Anti-histamines will also be included in case of an allergic reaction to things such as poison oak. Tweezers to remove tics and thorns and rehydrate packs that will make sure that no one dehydrates in the heat. Surgical gloves and surgical masks are also necessary so that infection can be avoided.

Other essential items found in the container should include antiseptic cream and antiseptic wash that will clean wounds and cuts and keep them clean. Antihistamines which are essential in any case where poisons may have been ingested or someone has been bitten or if there is an allergic reaction to foods or the environment. Burn gear which contain specifically treated bandages and liquids that are meant to treat burns.

Medication such as antihistamines and antiseptic washes should be kept. This must be replenished at least every three to six months. Painkillers and anti-inflammatories should be kept on hand. If an individual is a serious camper then keeping vials of anti-venom serum may save one's life in case of a snake bite which is fairly common.

If someone is going on safari, prior to the trip they should get inoculated from some of the African diseases such as malaria well in time for the trip. Keep items such as medications for diarrhea, stomach ache and vomiting on hand. Ensure that there is a course of antibiotics in case of snake bite. Keep a spare cellphone battery on hand for serious emergencies and always keep some rehydrate tonic available because Africa can get hot and one can become dehydrated very quickly.

No matter what the circumstances are, making your own first aid kit fully stocked and well prepared medical supply is necessary. Remember though, treating someone with a serious injury by means of one of these is a good thing to save their live. However; it is a stopgap measure and arrangements need to be made to get the injured person to the hospital immediately.
